Here's a definite site for sore eyes - Fake Karl is the fictional blog of Chanel designer Karl Lagerfield (think: The Devil Wears Prada but MORE sarcastic)!!! Come back and let me know what you think of it.

I've just received my first ever blog award from the super sweet Miss Songy of c'est si belle and Style Discovery - thank you so much! It's the Premio Dardos award for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing. Hmm, I don't know whether I actually live up to that but I do try my best!

Sara Phillips

Sara Phillips is a graduate of the prestigious East Sydney Fashion Design Studio. After five years working for Jayson Brunsdon and Saba, she launched her debut collection titled "Knit one Purl one" in November of 2007 at the Carriage Works in Sydney. Miss Phillips' clothes are really quirky and feminine. Her AW09 collection, dubbed "Come Fly With Me", is one of the cutest I've seen. And very reminiscent of Charles Anastase SS09, what with the organza skirt in the middle:

New-York based Slow And Steady Wins The Race is championing the democratization of fashion with a collection that mocks iconic designer handbags. Made from plain cotton muslin and canvas twill, these bags pare back the originals' hardware and shape to the bare minimum until "the hi-fashion designer bag becomes a lo-fi object sketch and consequently an alternate icon of itself."

Casting Agent Extraordinaire

Daniel Peddle went from studying film at NYU to casting models for Elite. Check out MODEL.com's interview with him here. I thought this bit was particularly interesting:

Have you noticed a predominant look this season?

There have been two looks that we’ve been drawn to and that we’re sort of editing our casting towards. We really like the tomboy look - not necessarily masculine in their face but they have sort of hardness to them while maintaining their elegance.
Another thing this season is trying to discern from all the girls out there the ones that are ethnically ambiguous. Girls and boys that have faces that you can’t just put in a certain place or race or geography. I think it’s very helpful to see those types of faces in our conflicted world because you can see that we’re still evolving as humans and they are the results of people willing to go beyond the socially constructed notions around race. I think that’s really important and were going to see even more of those as the population changes.

With the Internet and the way that everyone is so connected now it’s not something you can overlook anymore. I don’t think its possible to do a modern show and have it be all blondes. I understand that sometimes a designer has an aesthetic that dictates something like that and of course we’re going to work with them to achieve their goals but personally I don’t find that to be a very modern statement.

Wardrobe Wishlist

I apologize, this is probably the most uninspiring outfit ever (sorry) but I am all about exerting as little effort as possible at the moment. I'm trying to finish the last few pieces for my last fashion school application (a collage of SS09 trends and sketches of an SS09 design and an AW09 design...not difficult, I know, but I've been dragging my feet a bit and now they're almost due). Maybe I'd wear this to the post office. I will say, though, that I love the mix of high and low, expensive and inexpensive. Anyways, I promise to lift my game next week once all this stuff is out of the way!
