Which Kiss?

I couldn't decide which photo was more iconic - you'd literally be asking me to choose between New York and Paris, which is an impossible task, I'm afraid. Therefore, I give you both. Can you guys tell that I'm a sucker for romance?

Alfred Eisenstaedt’s image of a sailor kissing a nurse
in Times Square on V-J Day in 1945.

“The Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville,” taken in Paris in 1950.

  1. Ooooo my vote's for Paris. Look at the full head of artfully tousled hair on that Parisian man! Tehehe. Thanks for the get well wishes, hun. I am feeling much better and am looking forward to my cupcakes!

  4. I vote for the one in Times Square due to the circumstances of what was going on that time in America and the spontaneous idea of these two kissing

  8. I have a t-shirt with the NY sailor kiss. Its my favourite image by far. Something about it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

  9. For me it's the first one. It's NYC and a sailor!!! Both are so romantic though.

  10. As much as I love both, I think, for the dramatics I prefer the New York, but then again what makes the Paris Kiss so special is the subtlety.
You're right. Very difficult to choose.
New York girl is wearing a cuter outfit. ;) There, decision made. Haha.

  13. Which is more ICONIC? I don't know - seems like an easy pick to me. The end of WW2 perhaps? That picture in Times Square sums up a world of complex emotions. The French one? Eh. Just a kiss.

And, as an interesting side note, what a difference between the French and the American men - one discretely covers the nurse's face, the other is unabashed!

  16. Oooh! How can we choose? It's amazing how they two photos completely reflect where they were taken---one is unmistakeably american in its exuberance, and the other is so french with its air of sultry romance. i've never seen the two paired like this and i'm loving the contrast!

  17. The first one looks too much like he is devouring her face, although I respect the emotion of the occasion. I prefer Paris.
