Fountain Of Youth


Sooooo...first day of school recap:
  • There was that awkward/nervous "nice to meet you" vibe before class started.
  • Apparently they interviewed 330 people and only accepted 60 students. Yikes! They're going to split us into 4 sections and we'll have all our classes with the same 15 people.
  • There are like a billion different materials that we need to get. OK, I'm exaggerating - but it does add up. Sewing kit, art kit, locker, fabric, thread...I guess that means less money for retail therapy. :(
  • Threading a sewing machine is like riding a bike. We also learned how to sew basic seams today - a much-needed refresher.
  • Everyone else is so young! Like, fresh out of high school. It's so funny going back to studying after having worked for a bit. You have a lot more perspective, but also a lot more at stake (on the "This is what I want to do with my life" game show)!
  • The course is split into theory/design classes and practical/sewing classes. It sounds like the learning curve will be very steep and they are going to work us hard - I'm up for the challenge!
  • I actually do kind of feel like I'm on Project Runway. All I need is Tim Gunn saying, "Make it work, people!":p

    Ooh! How terribly exciting! :) I do think it's better to work and figure out what you would really like to do rather than plunk out of school...I say that because I have around 4 degrees under my belt, and now want to study something fashion-related (didn't think it was an option then). I'm loving that I can live vicariously through you ;)

    Btw, what did you end up wearing on your 1st day? :)

    sounds so great! they interviewed 330 and only took 60? well done for getting in! also who needs retail therapy when you can make your own dress ;)

    what a packed first day! i do hope you had a good time though :) it's such a good mindset to think of it as project runway! that way you always feel motivated to do your best even when things go crazy! :)

    Looks like you are doing the EXACT same thing I am this year :) I just turned 22 and am finally studying fashion design (be it night classes but at least its something) xx

    Sounds exciting! Do you mind if I ask where this is?
    From what I've seen, people who go back to studying after having already worked usually appreciate the experience more, and as you say, have more perspective, which is great.

    wow you made a pretty awesome cut there...hahah I can just imagine you now and everybody else 5 yrs+ younger with first day syndrome. Oh i am so happy you are chasing this dream of yours and i really really can't wait to see how it pans out.
