An Interview With Complex Geometries

I was hopeless at math in school but it's a no-brainer to see that Montreal-based label Complex Geometries is the answer for those of you in search of lightweight, versatile and beautifully crafted basics. The SS09 collection features loosely draped dresses, tops, skirts and shorts made of crumpled silk - perfect for tossing in your suitcase and layering no matter your destination!

The creative force behind the label kindly agreed to a quick Q&A session with yours truly. Read on!

Who is the designer behind Complex Geometries?
Clayton Evans, with a team of creative assistants.

Where did you study?
At Grandma's kitchen table. I actually studied Fine Art, but I tried sewing for some of my projects, using the skills my grandma taught me, and eventually started making clothes full time.

Describe the kind of guys and girls who wear your clothes.
Its a broad mix. But I guess, in general, it's people who love fashion but who prefer to make a quiet statement through thoughtful dressing. .
What is the inspiration behind the SS09 collection? The inspiration for the SS09 collection was "traveling". From a practical standpoint, the clothes are light and pack well. From a more conceptual perspective, we incorporated a lot of elements related to traveling like luggage and bad souvenir clothing.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?Pretty much anyone. The best collaborations are the most unexpected ones.
Mercí, Clayton! You can pick up pieces from Complex Geometries online or at their concept store in Montréal, OAK in New York, Henrik Vibskov in Copenhagen, and Browns Focus in London.

I love how beautifully crafted the outfits look! I like the first two, with the cinched waists and the scarf-like pieces!
